Dahat's Backstory

After being orphaned at a young age, Dahat grew up on the streets as a petty thief, relying on his skills and intimidation to get by. He spent his early life fending for himself until he met Haleen, a kind young woman who had already taken a pair of human brothers under her wing. She always seemed to see the good in him, even when he couldn't see it himself, and he came to think of her and the Blackblade boys as his family.

Despite their connection and Haleen's attempts to influence him towards a better path, Dahat eventually got into serious trouble over a debt to some dangerous folks. He chose to distance himself from Haleen and the Blackblades (both emotionally and geographically) in order to keep them safe as he worked to pay off the debt using his talents for the people he owed. This quickly got him involved in criminal dealings of a caliber he hadn't gone near before, things he would never want Haleen to know about. He was quite skilled at this kind of work and, despite himself, he began to enjoy it. Enough so, that even after his debt was repaid, he decided to continue working for the criminals he'd taken up with rather than returning to his adoptive family.

He was having fun, indulging his darker impulses, and slipping further and further down a path towards true Evil, until one fateful night set him back on the path to Good. Dahat doesn't talk much about that period anymore, nor the details of the event that changed his life forever, but apparently in the course of some criminal and immoral activity he found himself trapped in a burning building and facing certain fiery death. Miraculously, he survived with barely a singe but having experienced a religious awakening. He climbed out of that smoking rubble at dawn the next day and, with his clothes still smoldering, walked straight to the local Temple of Sarenrae, seeking guidance and atonement.

Not long later, he got word from the Blackblade brothers that Haleen had vanished so he rushed home to aid the search for her. Reunited with his adoptive brothers once again, he's determined to remain on the virtuous path.

Background

His immediate goal is to keep what remains of his adopted family safe, beyond that he would like to find/rescue Haleen,
.

What are his long-term goals?
Master the skill of weapon crafting; Serve the will of Sarenrae by redeeming those who are willing and destroying those who are not; Expand their adventuring group into an influential force for Good
.

What type of person would be his ideal mate?
A woman with a passionate nature to match his own. Probably either another Ifrit or somebody who shares his faith in Sarenrae
.

Who is his patron deity? Is he a devout worshiper?
Sarenrae, the Healing Flame, is his personal patron. He believes whole-heartedly in her teachings about redemption

Traits: rank each trait from 1 to 10

Courtesy: 5
Courtesy and manners are useful social tools, they keep things running smoothly. But they are really just a means to an end in that regard and hold very little objective value

Valor: 7
He respects both the power fear can exert over the heart and the mind (after all it is a weapon he wields deftly against his enemies) and also the strength it takes to face one's fears. But he also believes that there is nothing to be gained from foolish courage in the face of true danger

Self-sacrifice: 8
He feels he owes a great moral debt that can never truly be repaid, the best he can do is pay it forward by sacrificing himself for others

Generosity: 4
Despite his desire to help others, he does have a slight greedy streak and does not freely give away his own hard earned wealth and possessions

Sobriety: 6.5
He prefers to keep his wits about him, but also enjoys cutting loose when its appropriate

Calm temper: 3.5
He's not an angry person, but a passionate one, so when he gets mad it shows

Optimism: 4
He strives to see the best in people (in that they can at least try to seek redemption), but he's more than a little paranoid and suspicious in general

Curiosity: 6
He doesn't seek knowledge for its own sake really, but believes that it can be the key to victory in many situations

Forgiveness: 9
Sarenrae teaches that all those who genuinely seek redemption are deserving of compassion

Cheerfulness: 7 -or- 3
Unless he's "on the job" and operating in professional-mode, he's a fairly laid-back happy-go-lucky kind of person most of the time

Patience: 6
A worthwhile virtue, but not one he assigns any special importance

Honesty: 4
Sure, it's better to be honest in general, but lies and deception are simply tools of the trade. Better to lie in the service of Good than to cause unnecessary harm with the truth

Helpfulness: 7
Helping others in need is his day-to-day purpose

Loyalty: 8
He takes the bonds of friendship and family very seriously. Few things can enrage him quite like betrayal
.
